A Remedy for Angioedema That's Worth Its Salt

Antihistamines, corticosteroids, and epinephrine can take time to relieve angioedema of the uvula. To shrink the uvula rapidly, have the patient gargle with a hypertonic saltwater solution (1 tsp of salt per ounce of water) and repeat this treatment every 20 to 30 minutes until the acute episode subsides. Caution against swallowing the solution.
