With the UK Prospective Diabetes Study risk engine known to overestimate the risk of coronary heart disease in type 2 diabetes patients, there is a room for an improved diabetes-specific risk model. These Japanese researchers analyzed pooled data from two clinical trials to develop a new risk engine that accurately predicts macro- and microvascular complications of diabetes.

The cost of screening for type 2 diabetes among children can be prohibitive because of the low prevalence of the disease. The authors of this cost simulation study, including 2.5 million children aged 10 to 17 years, outline the preferred strategies that can identify, in a cost-effective manner, pre-diabetes and type 2 diabetes among children.
