ObGyns are among the least likely physicians to accept new Medicare patients, according to a Jackson Healthcare survey of more than 2,000 MDs, and a survey done by the Texas Medical Association, one of the few state associations to monitor Medicare opt-outs, the percentage of Texas physicians accepting Medicare patients dropped from 78 percent in 2000, to 58 percent in 2012.
If the 27% cut in Medicare reimbursement is enacted as scheduled in 2013, more physicians will likely begin refusing Medicare patients.
