Femur Rotation Without Pressure

Patients who have had a hip prosthesis operation (and many others) habitually rotate their legs outward. Devices such as shoes with outriders either fail to keep them rotated inwardly or cause pressure sores on the feet. Try this instead: Collect a piece of stockinet 3 inches in diameter, a 2-inch piece of adhesive tape, and benzoin. Apply the benzoin to both legs, and then make stockings out of the stockinet on both feet to just below the knees. Adjust each one so that the toes are close together. Now secure the upper edges of the stocking with adhesive tape. You will find this device keeps your patient’s legs rotated inward without causing pressure sores.
