Jamie Costello: Exercise Changes During COVID-19

Many people adopted exercise programs they could do at home during the COVID-19 pandemic.

So many industries and aspects of life were irrefutably changed because of the COVID-19 pandemic.

With gyms closed, recreational sports programs cancelled, and many looking for ways to cope with the stress of the pandemic, at-home exercise programs became a necessity.

But are they here to stay or will the public revert back to their gyms and other community locations?

The answer might be both.

In an interview with HCPLive®, Jamie Costello, MSC, Pritikin Longevity Center, said out of necessity people adopted at-home workout plans during the pandemic, whether it is paid subscriptions for routine based programs or they purchased equipment and made plans on their own.

Costello said as the pandemic waned, a lot of people tried to maintain their at-home workout schedules.

But there is a sense of community involved in going to the gym or playing sports that people crave, particularly after the long periods of isolation since the pandemic began.

Costello said many people are utilizing both the at-home workouts a few days a week, but still participating in exercise amongst peers a few times a week as well.

And this hybrid exercise program might be here to stay, as Costello explained that people decided both can be useful and beneficial.
