Check out highlights from news published on Day 2 of the EADV Congress 2026, spanning vitiligo, HS, atopic dermatitis, and more.
Day 2 of the European Academy of Dermatology and Venereology (EADV) Congress 2026 in Vienna, Austria, brought a broad mix of dermatology news spanning vitiligo, hidradenitis suppurativa, atopic dermatitis, palmoplantar pustulosis, and the dermatologic effects of a widely prescribed drug class.
Highlights included 76-week phase 3 data for a Janus kinase (JAK) inhibitor in vitiligo, 3-year extension data for an IL-17A/F inhibitor in HS, positive phase 2 findings for a trispecific antibody in atopic dermatitis, and a feasibility readout for JAK inhibition in palmoplantar pustulosis. Expert insights on HS in skin of color and a controlled study linking GLP-1 receptor agonists to nail changes rounded out the day.
Check out our rundown of the top 6 headlines from day 2:
Long-term phase 3 Viti-Up data showed facial repigmentation with upadacitinib continued to improve through week 76, with F-VASI 75 rising from 33.1% at week 48 to 55.1% at week 76 in Viti-Up-1. A 28-week substudy found higher response rates when twice-weekly NB-UVB phototherapy was added, although statistical comparisons were not reported.
Following her talk during the Skin of Color Society session, Riley discussed how erythema may be subtle or absent in skin of color, making palpation essential for detecting HS inflammation. She also addressed patient, clinician, and system-level contributors to delayed diagnosis, along with strategies for managing pigmentary changes and keloid risk.
Post hoc BE HEARD analyses found 47.4% of patients with the shortest disease duration achieved IHS4-100 at 3 years, compared with 33.3% of those with the longest. Biologic-naive patients also saw higher rates of complete draining tunnel resolution, and no new safety signals emerged across more than 2100 patient-years of exposure.
In the first controlled study of GLP-1 receptor agonists and nail health, 39% of users reported nail detachment compared with 9% of metabolically similar controls. Differences persisted after accounting for weight loss and nutritional deficiencies, although the cross-sectional design limits causal interpretation.
Tilrekimig, a trispecific antibody targeting IL-4, IL-13, and thymic stromal lymphopoietin (TSLP), met its EASI-75 primary endpoint at week 16 across all doses versus placebo in Pfizer's phase 2 trial in moderate to severe atopic dermatitis. With a half-life supporting monthly dosing, the agent has advanced into phase 3 trials in atopic dermatitis and asthma.
The single-center JAKPPPOT trial found upadacitinib met all prespecified feasibility thresholds in palmoplantar pustulosis, with 65.0% of patients achieving PP-PASI75 at week 8 versus 3.2% in a historic placebo cohort. Gleeson noted disease activity returned after treatment stopped and said a larger, longer trial against an active comparator is warranted.
